The Louvain Institute of Data Analysis and Modeling (LIDAM) is pleased to offer

2 PhD fellowships in economics/economic history

starting in fall 2021, in the context of two large interdisciplinary projects hosted by UCLouvain.

The first fellow will work under the supervision of Prof. Fabio Mariani in the context of the ARC project “Ostia’s transformation: investigating a urban model”. By taking advantage of new archaeological evidence, this project aims at studying the interplay between economic development and socio-demographic transformation of a preindustrial (and supposedly Malthusian) economy followed over ten centuries.

The second fellow will work under the supervision of Prof. David de la Croix in the context of the ERC grant “Did elite human capital trigger the rise of the West? Insights from a new database of scholars from European universities and academies”. In order to be considered for the position, candidates must be less than 30 years as of October 1, hold a research master in Economics or equivalent, and have a strong interest in European history.

The successful candidates will be granted space office at IRES/LIDAM, have access to IT and research facilities, and are expected to actively participate to the scientific life of IRES/LIDAM. He/she will earn about 2000 euros after-tax salary per month, and will be covered by the Belgian health insurance system. Each fellowship is for two years, renewable once.
