The seminar will start at 2pm, in d.262 (Dupriez).
Title of presentation: Discourse analysis in media literacy research: elements for the study of young people's media practices, educational actions and public policies.
Summary : In this interactive presentation, Mathieu Bégin will discuss the relevance of certain theoretical elements of discourse analysis for media literacy research. He will show how these elements can be used to study young people's media practices, educational actions and public policies. He will also explain how the use of NVivo qualitative analysis software can be used to show the links between these three worlds. His theoretical and methodological presentation will be illustrated with data from three research projects he is currently carrying out on the themes of cyberbullying, misinformation and digital well-being. He will take the opportunity to discuss the similarities and differences between discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis (CDA). He will highlight the methodological and axiological challenges posed by these theories.
