My thoughts of Jacques are focused on two aspects: towering scholar and a friends. When I was the CORE Research Director in 2004-6 we worked together with Michel Le Breton on optimal location of public facilities. This led to several papers including two published in JET. What was the most impressive is his vision of large picture combined with an unbelievable attention to smallest. of details. This was Jacques' way of approaching things in life and science. It left a deep impression on me. As to our other interactions, we went together 2-3 times a week to the swimming pool in LLN and had a lunch after that We talked mostly about Europe and Russia. Unfortunately, the scenarios we have drawn then do not seem to be realistic now. More people should have listened to Jacques. Rest in peace, dear friend.
