The passing of Professor Jacques Drèze is a terrible shock.

I feel a great sadness, and I would like to send my most heartfelt condolences to Jacques Drèze’s family.

During my undergraduate studies at the UCL in 1983-85, I had the great chance to follow Professor Drèze's courses (econometrics, general equilibrium theory, economics of risk and uncertainty), and to meet him personally.

These teachings and my contacts with Jacques Drèze have deeply marked me for life. His support allowed me to continue my studies at the London School of Economics, and then to do a PhD at the University of Chicago. After my studies, I have met Prof. Drèze at many conferences and seminars in Belgium and other countries.

In addition to being an outstanding research economist, and the creator of important scientific institutions (CORE, European Economic Association, etc.), Jacques Drèze was also an exceptional teacher, gifted with incredible intellectual and personal charisma. He has opened up so many fascinating new perspectives for his students!

On top of that, Professor Jacques Drèze was very kind and generous, and deeply human.

I have very great affection, gratitude and admiration for Professor Drèze.

Thank you a thousand times, dear Jacques!
