How Conflict and Climate Shape Migration ?
How Do Conflict and Climate Change Shape the Future of Vulnerable Regions? Marion Richard, who completed her PhD at IRES (UCLouvain), explores the impact of climate change and conflict on developing countries, particularly in the Sahel region. When we think about global warming, we often overlook how disproportionately it affects these already vulnerable areas. In her thesis, Marion investigated how households in Mali respond to both climatic shocks and civil conflict. Her research reveals that while families may attempt to redirect migration to safer areas, this isn’t always feasible, leading to increased food insecurity.
