Can I get PEPS status?

Can I get the PEPS status? How can I benefit from this status?

The PEPS status is granted to students with disabilities, i.e., students who "have long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments that interact with various barriers to full and effective participation in higher education on an equal basis with others" (Article 1 of the Decree on Inclusive Higher Education for Students with Disabilities ) (part 1 on 30 01 2014 and part 2 on  7 02  2019)

The PEPS status is therefore granted to students who have

  • either a disability (sensory or motor),
  • or a disorder such as learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysorthographia, dyspraxia, etc.) or attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity (ADD(H))
  • an autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • a mental health disorder (MHD)
  • a disabling organic disease.

It is important that the student applying for FIFO status has a recent diagnosis that substantiates the disability, illness or disorder.

The purpose of granting the PEPS status is to allow the student, through the implementation of reasonable and regulatory accommodations, to carry out an academic study project while respecting the difference. The accommodations are determined in a reasonable context, taking into account the student's disability, disorder or illness and the requirements of his or her program of study. They are aimed at evaluation methods and not at learning outcomes. The academic requirements of the training are identical to those of any other student and the diploma issued at the end of the program will have exactly the same value as any other diploma. There is no question of making learning easier or less demanding.

In addition to the more academic accommodations, the PEPS status (HTM) also allows the student to have priority access to certain housing at Uclouvain (adapted, accessible housing, close to the faculty, etc.).
