En parallèle à la conférence "Les preuves de l'évolution biologique", dans le cadre de l'Ecole doctorale Biodiversité, écologie et évolution du FNRS (BEE), Jerry A. Coyne (University of Chicago, USA) interviendra dans les sémianires "Meet the Expert" organisé par le Biodiversity Research Centre (BDIV) ELI.

La participation est gratuite.

Cette rencontre sera suivie de la conférence sur l'Open Access, en présence des fondateurs du mouvements PCI Evol Biol.

"Two flies on an island: speciation and hybridization in African Drosophila", Pr. Jerry Coyne, University of Chicago, USA

Two sister species of Drosophila, D. yakuba and D. santomea, are sympatric on the island of São Tomé of the west coast of Africa. In this talk I describe a number of studies that investigate the biogeography, genetics, and evolutionary dynamics of these species, concentrating on their hybridization in nature and the laboratory. We compare our findings to other species in the genus to see if there are generalizations about the formation of species in this genus.
