Prerequisites

The course is intended for linguists who already have basic knowledge in statistics and some experience using R, and wish to improve their proficiency in statistical analysis of linguistic data.

As preparation, participants should have much of the knowledge covered in some of the initial chapters of St. Th. (2021) Statistics for Linguistics with R (3rd edition). Berlin & Boston: Mouton de Gruyter.

Specifically, the prerequisites are:

  • 'fundamentals of empirical research in behavioral sciences' (Ch. 1)
  • an inroduction to R and relevant functions and data types (Ch. 2)
  • descriptive statistics (Ch. 3, with Section 3.5 being optional)
  • selected monofactorial methods (minimally Sections 4.1.2 and 4.3)

Software used

Participants bringing their own laptop should install R and RStudio beforehand.
