Visit of the Mori Arinori Institute of Higher Education and Global Mobility of the Hitotsubashi University of Tokyo

Louvain-La-Neuve, Mons

Marcel Gérard, our Emeritus Professor in Economics and Taxation, has visited the Mori Arinori Institute of Higher Education and Global Mobility of the Hitotsubashi University of Tokyo. He spent six weeks there in November and December 2019, doing research with local colleague Professor Yukari Matsuzuka and delivering seminars in different places including the University of Hiroshima and Tokyo Tech. He also deepened contacts with Professor of Economics Motohiro Sato from Hitotsubashi University. That University is exclusively dedicated to humanities and social sciences, and usually considered as ranked 3 among Japanese universities of that field; still better ranked among national institutions active in Business Management. Its main partner in Belgium is KULeuven.

As a Fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, he contributed to the development of a research project inspired by his own previous work on the international mobility of highly skilled people, especially higher education students and young graduates. This time however application focuses on mobility in and with eastern Asia, with possibly the aim of preventing undesired movements in highly skilled population of Japan. Professors Gerard and Matsuzuka intend to continue that research during the coming months.
