The Pole of Medical Microbiology (MBLG) of the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Research (IREC) has two main units: virology and bacteriology. Its research activities are towards diagnosis, epidemiology, fundamental and translational research.
The Pole manages several laboratories including the AIDS Belgian national reference laboratory (ARL), the national reference centers (CNR) for Clostridium difficile, Yersinia and Borrelia, and also hosts a research group on mycobacteria and tuberculosis.
Its research team is composed by laboratory technologists, scientific researchers, biologist physicians and pharmacists, and secretaries. All medical information is validated by highly qualified personnel and our laboratory meets the requirements of competence corresponding to ISO15189 accreditation standards controlled by BELAC.
Our laboratory is equipped with a molecular platform using state-of-the-art techniques to carry out molecular microbiology experiments on multidisciplinary research topics.
