Marino Gran will be the next IRMP president

The IRMP council, in its general meeting held on 10 May 2021, elected prof. Marino Gran as IRMP president for the next three-year term. Marino Gran will take office on 1 September 2021, taking over from prof. Giacomo Bruno. 

 

Marino Gran is a mathematician working in the field of algebra. After his PhD at UCLouvain, he spent a research period at the University of Coimbra as post-doctoral researcher of the "Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique" (FNRS). He worked for a few years as maître de conférences at the Université du Littoral in Calais (France), where he obtained the "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches". In 2008 he returned to UCLouvain as permanent academic staff. Marino Gran has already covered the role of IRMP president from September 2015 to August 2018. Prof. Gran currently coordinates the activities of the research group in category theory. He believes in the importance and usefulness of fundamental research for our society, and hopes that the beautiful and simple principles of many modern mathematical and physical theories will be made accessible to a wider public. During the next term as president of the IRMP he will focus on the quality of everyday life at the institute, and on the visibility and the attractiveness of the IRMP both in Belgium and at an international level.
