"See and Show: Statistical graphics and tabulation to discover and communicate"
A B S T R A C T
Even more than written text or spoken word, graphs and tables are key tools with which we communicate about statistical content. We inspect the data, detect patterns, express them in form of models, communicate what we find to others. Every time, there is at least one graph or table. So why not study what makes a good or a bad graph or table?
This talk shows how principles of perception and communication determine how efficiently we can see in graphs and tables and how we an prepare graphs and tables which communicate well.
There will be many good and bad examples and some interesting stories.
(Note: this is an adapted version of an annual talk given annually, if you have already seen it, you may not learn a lot of new tricks ...)
