Are you looking for a very stimulating multilingual environment and a unique added value in your student experience ?
The Double Degree LSM-KU Leuven offers the possibility to be awarded two degrees in two different languages.
Two prestigious Belgian universities have developed a strong partnership since 2007. UCLouvain & KU Leuven were founded in 1425 and are considered as one of the oldest universities in Europe. Contributing to this long-standing tradition and focusing on excellence, both universities are EQUIS accredited.
After two successful years at the Louvain School of Management and at KU Leuven, you are awarded two official Master's degrees in just two years: the KUL Master of Business Engineering (at Leuven or at Brussels) or the KUL Master in de toegepaste economische wetenschappen: handelsingenieur (at Leuven) and the LSM Master in Business Engineering.
" I decided to study the last year of my master in Leuven in Dutch and English. Of course, in the end, you receive a double degree (one in French and one in Dutch) but the main motivations to attend such program should be: - the discovery of a new learning system as the Dutch one is not similar to ours; - the accelerated learning of the other languages (Dutch and English); and - the adaptability to a new environment. By attending such program, you are of course ahead of other candidates when applying for a job as employers only have now two words in their mind while recruiting: flexibility and languages. I won't lie to you by saying that the courses I attended in Dutch were already very complicated for the Flemish students. So what could it be for us, the French native speakers? But I was really a great journey that I will never forget..." (Gauthier Andrien, LSM/KU Leuven 2014-2016)
Double degree student who has completed the required credits of each university will obtain two degrees, one from each university:
> @ LSM: it will be the "Master en ingénieur de gestion, à finalité spécialisée" (legally titled in French, the programme is entirely in English).
> @ KU Leuven: it will be the "Master in de toegepaste economische wetenschappen: handelsingenieur (in Dutch/English) OR the "Master in Business Engineering" (entirely in English)
Double Degree Structure
DD students will spend 1 year at LSM and one year at KU Leuven. Although programmes are subject to change, you can check examples here below:
Students enrolled in a double degree LSM/KUL are required to write a joint Master's thesis. Therefore the students will have to found two professors: one at LSM and one at KU Leuven. One will be the main supervisor and the other one the reader.
Students usually start their work for the Master's thesis already during the first year. The Master's thesis will be written in English. A mandatory oral defense will take place in front of at least the two professors (by skype if needed).
Tuition fees are paid at the "home" university, for the entire duration of the studies. Administrative fees might be required at the "host" university.
