In 2018 UCLouvain became an active member of The Shift, a Belgian platform for organisations committed to creating a more sustainable society and economy. This network brings together companies, NGOs, academic institutions, and other civil society actors. Through its annual membership fee, UCLouvain offers its entire community – its academic and administrative staff as well as its students – the opportunity to participate in the activities organised by The Shift.
Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)
The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) was established under the auspices of the UN Secretary General to implement the SDGs and the Paris Agreement on climate change (COP21). It is a network of universities, including UCLouvain, research centres, companies, citizens, and authorities who converge towards the same objective: to promote practical solutions in favour of sustainable development. The SDSN seeks to accelerate dialogue between science, politics, and industry, but it is also a privileged partner helping guide Belgian decision-makers. In Belgium, 2019–2020 was dedicated to a transversal focus, namely sustainable chemistry.
