Mobility Week 2023 | Make way for sustainable modes of transport!

TRANSIT

Sustainable modes of transport to our campuses. Among them? Cycling!

To facilitate this mode of travel, the university is taking steps:

► The development, over the last few years, of parking facilities for bicycles on all campuses:

  • Secure and/or covered bicycle shelters are available today and their development is continuing: additional secure bicycle shelters should see the light of day in Louvain-la-Neuve (a permit application is underway to establish one of them near Science 1 in the upper part of the town; a project sheet has been submitted at Collège Michotte (Grand-Place) as well as for the Sciences car park).

  • A project has also been launched to install cycle racks around the auditoriums to meet the needs of students and staff. These racks will be installed over the coming months around the university's main buildings.

Numerous showers are also available in various university buildings. Other showers and changing rooms will be installed as buildings are renovated, where relevant and possible.

► Since 1 July, you can insure your bike against theft or damage free of charge in our secure bike shelters.

► The university will contribute €0.27 per km towards the cost of your bicycle travel. As an example, this represents some €405 per year for a 5km journey that you would make 150 days a year.

► UCLouvain regularly invites you to test your home-to-work journeys by bike and makes various models of bike (foldable, electric, longtails) available in Louvain-la-Neuve, Brussels and, from next year, Mons). The next tests will take place in September and October for members of staff working at one of the Brussels sites.

Before you leave: maps available, routes, junctions, etc.

Good to know

  • Taking part in a cycling challenge?
Tous vélo-actifs is organising the biggest regional cycling challenge from 16 to 22 September.

  • Need a bike?
Go to the Maison du Développement Durable in LLN from 18 September to 4 October to discover a selection of second-hand bikes for sale by the non-profit organisation La Cordiante. It's the perfect opportunity to buy an environmentally-friendly means of transport at a bargain price. > info@maisondd.be

  • For a few months now, the Louvain-la-Neuve site has had a new bike shop: "Morning Cycle", located on rue des Sports near the Blocry.

Can't cycle to work? Take public transport!

>> A TEC competition full of surprises! Don't miss it in our next newsletter "It's a new week" on 11 September: make the most of it!

Taking public transport not only gives you more free time, it's also the most economical solution: your train, TEC or STIB season ticket is reimbursed at 100%.

Are you travelling around the Louvain-la-Neuve campus?

Think about the TEC on-demand service, which became "D1 Louvain-la-Neuve" in July! This new transport-on-demand formula offers optimised, collective journeys between central points in LLN and several outlying localities. > Consult the leaflet - Find out more

✪ As a reminder, a TEC season ticket for a student aged between 18 and 24 costs €12 a year and allows you to travel on all TEC lines, everywhere and all the time! A golden opportunity to offer autonomy at a ridiculously low price.

Trains cancelled between Ottignies and Louvain-la-Neuve
Train services between Ottignies and Louvain-la-Neuve stations will be disrupted until 13 October 2023.
The number of trains between these two stations will be reduced: the S8 Ottignies - Louvain-la-Neuve trains will be cancelled.
The reason for this is the RER works being carried out by Infrabel teams, who recommend taking the S8 Zottegem-Bruxelles-Louvain-la-Neuve or Bruxelles-Midi -Etterbeek-Louvain-la-Neuve trains. Info: belgiantrain.be
